With the verdict on its season in question, La Plata's baseball
team took the fifth Friday.
The Warriors scored six runs in the fifth inning and received
strong relief pitching from senior Charlie Hutchinson for an 8-4
victory over Chopticon in the 3A South Region championship game.
After La Plata scored consecutive runs on walks in the fifth,
junior T.C. Renner's one-hop single drove in senior Austin Flowers
for the winning run, erasing a 4-2 deficit.
In the team's wild postgame celebration, two players dumped a
bucket of ice water on 22nd-year coach Dan Devitis.
