The digital camera is ascendant, but the photo industry isn't
completely thrilled about it.
Things would seem to be going great for the business: The cameras'
shrinking prices, increased capabilities and improved ease of use
have changed digital photography from an expensive hobby for
technophiles to a serious competitor to the conventional 35mm camera
for space in travelers' fanny packs.
A few years ago, just seeing the pictures they had shot required
digital-camera users to reach into the rat's nest of wires behind
their PC to plug the camera into an open serial port, then fire up
some clunky software for a leisurely download of the photos. Color
LCD screens were too expensive for many ...
