It is the ghost of Old Town Manassas, visible only on police
shoulder patches, official letterhead and the city seal. The City
Hall cupola is practically everywhere except where it is supposed to
be -- atop the old City Hall.
No one seems to remember exactly what happened to it or when,
other than it hasn't been up there for a long while.
For Douglas S. Waldron, a former City Council member, the empty
sky that has replaced the cupola is an insult to the city's history
and pride. Imagine someone knocking off Abraham Lincoln's stovepipe
hat or washing the smile off the Mona Lisa.
Waldron has been pushing the dream of seeing the cupola rebuilt
