Palm Beach is the only city anywhere in the world to see a 21st-
century car crash between three Rolls-Royces.
This island dream, reached over three drawbridges, is in Florida
but not of it. It lends real meaning to the word 'exclusive'. Time
stopped still on South Ocean Boulevard around 1935. Palm Beach is
where the Jay Gatsbys and Amory Blaines have gone in old age. They
are now in their eighties; they still play a set with the gals
before lunch at the Bath Tennis Club and they sip an evening GT on
the terrace before they stroll with their Pekinese down green lawns
to the blue Atlantic's edge. Their Palm Beach sun sets on a light
