Westmoreland sells coal royalties

Westmoreland Coal Co. said Tuesday it sold rights to royalty payments on 225 million tons of coal from a Wyoming mine for $12.7 million.

The royalty interest in Peabody Energy Corp.'s Caballo Mine was included with mines Westmoreland bought from Montana Power Co. in 2001 and was sold because it is "unrelated to any of the company's current operations," Westmoreland Chairman Chris Seglem said.
