What are you reading in bed at present?

I'm reading Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. I am quite enjoying it, actually. It's about the fall of Paris in 1940. It's beautifully written - it's the story of six or seven different groups of people leaving Paris before the Germans get there. I tend to read two or three books at a time. I'm also reading Alan Bennett's Untold Stories. I prefer the diaries to the essay bit. I lived in Camden Town for a long time and I used to see him buying - I imagined - cupcakes in Marks and Spencer. No one bothered him at all and I used to think, that's really the kind of fame you want.
