DANBURY, Conn. (AP) Union Carbide Corp. announced yesterday
that it had sold nearly all of its worldwide chromium, tungsten and
vanadium metals businesses for a total of $83 million.
The sales bring total divestitures under the company's current
restructuring program to $523 million, topping the $500 million
called for under the plan announced Aug. 11.
Carbide already has announced the sale of its engineering
polymers business to Chicago-based Amoco Chemicals Co. for $210
million and the sale of its films packaging division to a division of
Envirodyne Industries for $230 million.
The chromium interests, in South Africa, are being purchased by
