Article: Carbide divests another unit as selloff continues

DANBURY, Conn. (AP) Union Carbide Corp. announced yesterday that it had sold nearly all of its worldwide chromium, tungsten and vanadium metals businesses for a total of $83 million.

The sales bring total divestitures under the company's current restructuring program to $523 million, topping the $500 million called for under the plan announced Aug. 11.

Carbide already has announced the sale of its engineering polymers business to Chicago-based Amoco Chemicals Co. for $210 million and the sale of its films packaging division to a division of Envirodyne Industries for $230 million.
