On some Tuesday nights, it's 7 p.m. before Victor Aitay,
co-concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, finishes
rehearsing in Orchestra Hall downtown.
He has to drive hard to reach Barat College in Lake Forest by 8
p.m. for weekly rehearsals of the Lake Forest Symphony. Music
director of the symphony since 1967, Aitay is rarely late.
Linda Keller, an accountant, drives between Deerfield and
Evanston at least once a week. Principal clarinetist with the
Evanston Symphony Orchestra for more than 20 years, she spends 2 1/2
hours most Tuesday nights rehearsing in Evanston Township High
School.
