NEW YORK Moniker madness may inspire a little hee-hawing or
omigoshing over the weird, whimsical, unusual names on the nation's
school scene.
During a year-long hunt by the American School Board Journal,
these were spotted: Big Ugly, Boring, Bland, Failing, Friendly,
Nodaway, Sweet Home Central, Body Camp.
Teachers and students at these schools also carry the names, of
course. One assumes Big Ugly, for one example, has Big Ugly students
and Big Ugly teachers.
Carrying on as a Boring, Bland or Friendly teacher or pupil
might not be so bad. But imagine being identified as a "Failing
student" or a "Failing teacher."
