Deal with your cat's claws, don't make your cat deal without them, is advice from cat breeder Jean B. Townsend.

"Declawing is cruel and unnecessary and a cat can be trained to claw where you want it to,"she says, adding that "when an owner has his cat declawed, he is telling that cat `I want all of you except your claws. I am rejecting the thing that is the very essence of your being.'
