Article: Pierre Boulez brings brave new music to Chicago

Pierre Boulez is one of the central figures in the music of the past 40 years. He is, unfortunately, far too little known and far too little appreciated in Chicago. Works such as "Le marteau sans maitre" (1954) or "Pli selon pli" (1960), both landmarks in the music of this century, are essentially unknown here, and the situation is rather as if in 1943, Chicago audiences had yet to hear Stravinsky's "Le sacre du printemps." (In fact that no less revolutionary work was played by the Chicago Symphony as early as 1924.)
