Article: Searle selects ex-Pfizer exec as president, CEO

G.D. Searle & Co. has named the former president of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Sheldon G. Gilgore, as its new president and chief executive officer.

Gilgore, 53, succeeds John Robson, who left the Skokie pharmaceutical company at the end of January following Searle's transition to a wholly owned subsidiary of St. Louis-based Monsanto Co.

"When Monsanto acquired Searle, it capped a decade-long determination to enter the pharmaceutical business. Under the leadership of Dr. Gilgore, we now have the strong management team in place needed to compete successfully worldwide," said Searle Chairman Earle H. Harbison Jr.
