Article: Cook County patients deserve better

Recently, The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a contract
to provide financially troubled Provident Hospital $2.2 million to
care for tuberculosis patients admitted to Cook County Hospital.
While there is sympathy to the plight of Provident Hospital, a
hospital with a history of dedicated service in Chicago, there are a
number of problems with this contract:
Disruption of patient care. This contract would transfer patients
with tuberculosis, in the midst of their treatment, from the
inpatient wards at Cook County Hospital to Provident Hospital.
Patient care will suffer from treatment interruption, and from loss
