Article: Cook County patients deserve better

Recently, The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a contract to provide financially troubled Provident Hospital $2.2 million to care for tuberculosis patients admitted to Cook County Hospital. While there is sympathy to the plight of Provident Hospital, a hospital with a history of dedicated service in Chicago, there are a number of problems with this contract: Disruption of patient care. This contract would transfer patients with tuberculosis, in the midst of their treatment, from the inpatient wards at Cook County Hospital to Provident Hospital.
