BOCA RATON, Fla. If economists were weathermen, a panel here
would have predicted clear skies everywhere but in the nation's farm
belt for the foreseeable future.
Cooling interest rates, a hot stock market, low inflation and an
improved balance of trade all were in the forecasts delivered by a
panel of economists at the Futures Industry Association convention
last week.
Raymond Worseck, manager of economic research with A.G. Edwards
& Sons in St. Louis, said he believes the Federal Reserve Board will
hold the line on short-term interest rates, while long-term rates
