SARASOTA, Fla. Ken Harrelson says Alvin Dark is "the finest baseball
mind alive today."
When this was relayed to Dark, Alvin said: "I guess I'm prejudiced
toward him, too. He's almost like a son to me."
But the "Hawk" seems such a wild character. Those outlandish hats
and costumes, the "Hawk Walk" strut, the unorthodox ideas.
"That's all front," Alvin said. "He's the most sensitive guy
you've ever seen, a great person."
Dark uttered this testimonial for the White Sox' executive
vice-president of baseball operations from a throne where Harrelson
had set him, a platform overlooking the four baseball diamonds of the
