Article: 4th Organ Recipient Has West Nile Virus, CDC Officials Say; Miss. Studies Transfusion Case

Federal disease investigators confirmed last night that a fourth
person who received a donated organ from a woman with West Nile virus
was infected with the microbe.
That finding makes it virtually certain that organ
transplantation, not coincidental bites by infected mosquitoes, was
the origin of the infections in the four organ recipients.
In an unrelated matter, officials at the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention and at the Mississippi state health department
are looking into the possibility that a woman in that state
contracted West Nile virus after receiving numerous blood
transfusions earlier this summer.
