The man at Ford Motor Co. headquarters in Dearborn, Mich., who
orders test cars for the press really goofed when it came to the
Mercury Topaz GS Sport.
The car is billed as a performance version of the regular Topaz
- a comfortable, capable, but mostly unexciting auto.
Eighty percent of Topaz GS Sport buyers order the car in
two-door form.
Also, the auto isn't complete without the high-output,
100-horsepower version of the standard Topaz 2.3-liter four-cylin
der engine, which generates 86 horsepower.
And the 100-horsepower engine works best with the Topaz
five-speed manual transmission.
So how did the Ford man in Dearborn equip the Topaz GS Sport car
I drove?
