Take a lazy drive on the main drag in downtown Lake Zurich, and if
it weren't for all those new vans and economy cars, you'd swear it
was 1950.
Rows of quaint stores with Alpine-style facades line Half Day
Road (Illinois 22)on the town's three-block-long shopping strip.
On a recent weekday morning, locals sipped coffee and gaffed
about the weather at the Koffee Kup, a breakfast gathering spot.
Turn off main street, drive west a block or two, and before you
know it the road ends at the placid 280-acre lake that gives the
town its name. Homeowners moor fishing boats at their front doors,
and a fly cast away, Bill's Boats and Rentals sells nightcrawlers and
red worms.
