LONDON Shakespeare may have been expressing a popular point of view
in "King Henry VI" when he wrote: "The first thing we do, let's kill
all the lawyers."
But don't feel sorry for the English legal profession. A visit
to "legal London" will leave you more envious than sympathetic.
London's lawyers inhabit a world filled with striking architecture,
campus-like surroundings and a rich history stretching over several
centuries.
Two distinct spheres of London's legal world are worth seeing:
1) the inns of court and 2) the law courts. The roles these two
institutions play are very different. The law courts are what
Americans also call courts, while the inns of court are unique to
England.
