DALLAS When the going gets tough - when the things she cherishes with all the fierceness she can muster, such as America and what she calls the oil patch, are mired in trouble - Karen Fowler writes songs.

During the Iranian crisis in the late 1970s, she wrote a punchy little ditty about the Ayatollah Khomeini. More recently, she's turned her pen to Moammar Gadhafi. Now, she's written "A Letter to Ronnie," a song set to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas," in which she tells of the oil industry's problems from the point of view of oil patch residents.
