LAKE GENEVA, Wis. At 100, the town of Lake Geneva is looking
good. At 150, the city is looking even better.
And as local merchants celebrate Lake Geneva's twin birthdays, a
party that started Saturday and continues through June 28, they
credit Chicagoans for their good fortune.
It's no secret that tourism is Lake Geneva's major business.
Tourists spend an estimated $40 million to $42 million a year on
retail trade. And 85 percent of the revenue comes from the Chicago
area visitors.
"I look out the window every day," says entrepreneur Glen
Nelson, "and ask, `Is Chicago still there?' If it is, I open up."
