Article: Lake Geneva has good reason to celebrate

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. At 100, the town of Lake Geneva is looking good. At 150, the city is looking even better.

And as local merchants celebrate Lake Geneva's twin birthdays, a party that started Saturday and continues through June 28, they credit Chicagoans for their good fortune.

It's no secret that tourism is Lake Geneva's major business. Tourists spend an estimated $40 million to $42 million a year on retail trade. And 85 percent of the revenue comes from the Chicago area visitors.

"I look out the window every day," says entrepreneur Glen Nelson, "and ask, `Is Chicago still there?' If it is, I open up."
