Article: McDonald's food disclosure action called misleading

McDonald's fast-food chain was accused yesterday of attempting to "mislead the public" by announcing that "consumer interest" is causing it to reveal the contents of its food, when it is under legal pressure to do so in several states.

Texas Attorney General Jim Mattox said McDonald's and four other major fast-food chains had consented to make the information available.

A McDonald's publicity release Monday was a "calculated effort to make the public think they were doing this out of the goodness of their heart, when in fact they were doing it because of pressure from our office," said Steve Gardner, an assistant to Mattox.
