Article: Allen gives 0 to O's // Shutout win primes Sox for 2nd-half run at top

When Neil Allen raised his fist after shutting out the Orioles 7-0 yesterday, he had much to celebrate.

"It was over," Allen said. "I don't know if it was the win or the shutout or what. I was just happy it was over."

The victory salvaged a split of the four-game series and left the Sox 7 1/2 games behind California at the All-Star break despite a record of 40-46. However, they're 13-7 under manager Jim Fregosi.

"We've played ourselves back into contention by playing consistently," said Greg Walker, who had two triples and a single. "Now we just have to keep being consistent."

Bobby Bonilla also contributed three hits as the Sox banged out a season-high 14 hits.
