Article: Family cookout takes a stab at Thais' year-round cuisine

For many of us, warm weather on a Sunday afternoon may bring to mind the thought of a barbecue. But for Pojanee Vatanapan and her Thai countrymen, grilling over charcoal is a way of life year-round.

In Thai families, the youngest child is always responsible for helping mother prepare family meals. As the youngest of 10 children, Pojanee was beckoned to the kitchen almost as soon as she was able to stir a ladle. By age 12 she was well known in her village as a cook.

Now, some 25 years later, she has collaborated with Linda Alexander to make available many of her family's favorite recipes in Pojanee Vatanapan's Thai Cookbook (Harmony Books, $14.95).
