Making "The Wizard of Oz" taxed the imagination and energy of all
those involved. Nothing like it had ever been done before.
And the classic has taken on a new life in video (MGM/UA;
color, sound remastered in stereo; 101 minutes; $29.95). Parents
who saw the film on the big screen or network TV are introducing a
new generation of children to the movie via video, especially with
the tape at its present low promotional price.
The costumes, makeup, sets and special effects represented a
great challenge for MGM. To further complicate matters, the actors
playing the Munchkins were reportedly carrying on with all-night
