NEW YORK Over the course of four days in Manhattan, the seventh
annual New Music Seminar played host to some 6,000 attendees and
turned the clubs of New York City into a showcase for more than 100
bands. During daylong sessions at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, there
were panels on songwriting and management, radio and nightclubbing,
heavy metal and new age.
There was a mock record-deal negotiation and a "faceoff" between
independent and major record labels. There was advice on booking
clubs and programming videos. There was plenty of moaning about how
awful and irrelevant radio has become.
