PRINCETON, N.J. Vice President George Bush continues to hold a
commanding lead for the 1988 Republican presidential nomination, with
no strong challengers apparent at this stage.
Some runners-up, however, exhibit pockets of strength that,
while insufficient to put them into strong current contention with
Bush, may be areas of opportunity as the campaign progresses.
The most obvious of these is TV evangelist Pat Robertson's
relatively strong current standing with the 3 in 10 Republicans and
Republican-leaning independents who describe themselves as
"born-again" or evangelical Christians. Robertson receives 20
