What triggers the development of asthma, or any particular asthma
attack, differs from person to person, but the National Asthma Center
offers these general tips:
Allergy can trigger an asthma attack, but not all asthmatics are
allergic, and not all allergy sufferers develop asthma. In fact, in
the majority of asthmatic adults, no specific allergy is identified.
In allergic asthmatics, the immune system develops a sensitivity to
one or more substances - called allergens. Some common allergens are
pollens, household dust, mold spores, foods and animal dander. Upon
contact with the allergen, the victim's body produces chemicals that
irritate the bronchial airways.
