Article: Rubin namesake takes different route for peace

Jerry Rubin, tanned and wearing a beard, extends his hand. He has just walked 12 miles, but he is smiling exuberantly.

"No," Rubin said, "I'm not that Jerry Rubin. I wasn't here for the Democratic convention in 1968.

"I'm actually another Jerry Rubin."

I smile back. I know quite well that he isn't the real Jerry Rubin. This one is half a foot taller.

He says, "Where was I back at the time of the riots in Grant Park in '68? Hey, man, I was back in Venice Beach, Calif., selling incense."

Rubin tells me he's 42, just a few years younger than his namesake.
