NEW YORK (AP) Dire Straits won the coveted video-of-the-year
award for the computer-animated "Money for Nothing" last night in the
third annual MTV Video Awards, while the Norwegian band a-Ha was
honored with seven first prizes.
Whitney Houston won as best female vocalist and Robert Palmer
took top honors as best male vocalist. Houston won for "How Will I
Know," and Palmer received his award for "Addicted to Love."
A-Ha's awards included five for its animated video, "Take on
Me." Dire Straits won for best group video. Each group had been
nominated for 10 awards.
"This will look pretty good in the old poolroom," said Dire
