Article: Ex-cop helps untie `Drug Knot' // `Hot' Dave Toma at last delivers his message to TV

LOS ANGELES Television supposedly is allergic to "hot" personalities - people as intense as ex-cop Dave Toma, a crusader against drugs.

Yet Toma has been the model for two prime-time TV series, "Toma" and "Baretta." And he now stars as himself in "The Drug Knot," a CBS special airing from 7 to 8 tonight on WBBM-Channel 2. "The Drug Knot" shows Toma visiting schools and telling teens that through love and communication they can find alternatives to self-destruction.

Toma uses his powerful personality to break through shells of indifference or scorn and make his listeners admit their problems to themselves and to people who can help them.
