NEW YORK When the sun sets on Oct. 3, Rosh Hashanah will begin, and Jews all over the world will gather to celebrate the opening hours of their new year.

For Jews, Rosh Hashanah provides a time for critical self-examination of the year gone by, as well as an opportunity for renewal of optimism for the year ahead.
