NEW YORK When the sun sets on Oct. 3, Rosh Hashanah will begin,
and Jews all over the world will gather to celebrate the opening
hours of their new year.
For Jews, Rosh Hashanah provides a time for critical
self-examination of the year gone by, as well as an opportunity for
renewal of optimism for the year ahead.
According to David Herzog - co-owner with his father, three
brothers and a brother-in-law of the Kedem Royal Wine Corp. in
Brooklyn - Rosh Hashanah "is a serious holiday, but not a time for
sadness."
Indeed, an attitude of optimism traditionally is expressed by
the Rosh Hashanah table with sweet foods and preparations of special
