Women thoroughbred trainers haven't been ranked yet with the
late Ben Jones and Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons or Hall of Fame trainer
Woody Stephens or stakes-winners such as D. Wayne Lukas and Leroy
Jolley. But give the women a chance. Not one of the male trainers
developed a stakes winner overnight, either.
Many of the 19 female licensed trainers in the Chicago area
haven't been training long and only a few have had horses of any
acclaim. They train mostly platers.
Christine Janks and Rickey Harris, however, are exceptions.
They have bigger stables and better horses and have won numerous
stakes.
Margi Spencer, wife of jockey Stanley Spencer, has also been
successful as a trainer and ...
