Article: Fenwick defense stifles Brother Rice

Fenwick wants a Catholic League football title. No one seemingly wants it more than linebacker Bob Carlson, who recovered three fumbles in the Friars' 26-14 victory over Brother Rice yesterday at Gately Stadium.

"This will be our year to take the Catholic League," said Carlson, whose third takeaway led to the go-ahead score. "I think we have as good a defensive team as the one Fenwick had in 1981."

In '81, Fenwick was a Catholic League North co-champ, but lost 7-6 in the Class 6-A semis to Brother Rice, which won state.

With yesterday's victory, Fenwick (5-1, 2-0) kept pace with favored Mount Carmel (6-0, 2-0) in the Catholic League North.
