Article: Bears still in back of line on pay day

The NFL Players' Association released some intriguing numbers to the Minneapolis Star and Tribune last week that could make Bear players livid and the front office proud.

The figures list the 1986 average salaries for all 28 NFL teams. And the defending Super Bowl champion Bears rank 15th, right behind lowly St. Louis, at $200,955 per man per year. That figure includes base salary, signing bonuses, reporting bonuses and roster bonuses.

It does not include incentive clauses that can't be determined until after the season. Many Bear contracts are heavily laden with incentive clauses.
