In the last 110 years, the Antiquarian Society has given more
than 600 important decorative works to the Art Institute of Chicago -
from textiles, Oriental art, silverwork and needlework to
woodcarvings, furniture, sculpture and paintings.
More than 100 of those objects are on display in "A Decade of
Decorative Arts: Antiquarian Society of the Art Institute of Chicago
Gifts to the Department of American Arts and European Decorative Arts
and Sculpture." The exhibition will continue through Jan. 4 in the
Ward Gallery.
Sure, the exhibition has a long title, but then the named
beneficent society has a longer history than the Art Institute
