PBS presents a four-part mini-series, directed by Tony Palmer and
written by Charles Wood, which will air from 10:30 to 11:30 tonight
through Thursday on WTTW-Channel 11.
There is always something sad and poetic about a prominent
actor's last role.
For John Wayne, knowing death was near, "The Shootist" came to
be a film symbolizing all the Western heroes he had played. Clark
Gable's final moments before the camera came by way of "The Misfits,"
in a role that suited his long and respected film career.
And now, Richard Burton exits gracefully. His last performance
comes in "Wagner," a four-part, PBS ...
