There's yet another competitor in the gourmet ice cream wars -
Roney Ice Cream company of Aurora. Roney's, who for four decades has
produced private-label ice cream for Marshall Field's and other
upscale outlets, is now offering its own line of premium ice cream
and premium ice milk. The 18 ice cream flavors, including raspberry
cheese cake, will retail for about $3.29 a half-gallon. The ice
milk, in eight flavors, contains about half the fat and one-third
fewer calories than Roney's ice cream. A half-gallon will retail for
about $2.29. Roney's is introducing the products in Cub Food Stores,
Treasure Island supermarkets and selected independent groceries.
