Illinois nursing homes are illegally discriminating against AIDS
patients by refusing to accept them for admission, the American Civil
Liberties Union has charged.
Harvey Grossman, legal director of the Illinois ACLU branch,
said homes that refuse AIDS patients are violating state and federal
laws prohibiting discrimination against the handicapped.
He said his organization is considering suing homes to gain
admission for AIDS victims.
The Illinois AIDS Interdisciplinary Advisory Council, which
advises the state on AIDS issues, later this month will notify
hospital social workers trying to place patients in nursing homes of
the ACLU's position and urge them to report abuses to the ...
