BIWADI, India Gillette razor blades by the thousands formally
began rolling out of a modern new plant here last week as the
Boston-based multinational company began its climb into the
second-biggest shaving market in the world.
Visiting chairman of the board Colman M. Mockler Jr. could not
help but smile when he thought of the 2 billion razor blades sold
annually in India, second only to the U.S. market of 2.4 billion.
His smile grew when he thought of the possibilities of expanding
beyond Gillette's 7 o'clock blades, as they are called here, to other
shaving products or to the company's line of writing instruments.
