Article: Holy Trinity Parish wins reprieve

Holy Trinity Parish has been given a stay of closure by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago.

The non-territorial parish, which has served Polish faithful from across the city since 1893, will remain open as a mission and site of special services for recent immigrants from Poland despite a paucity of priests, declining membership and major building repair needs, said Joseph Cardinal Bernardin.

Archdiocesan officials had considered closing the parish at 1118 N. Noble last summer when Resurrectionist priests who administer Holy Trinity said they would be pulling out Jan. 1, 1987.
