Article: Coaches get perks, so give athletes laundry money

The salaries of today's big-time college coaches raise eyebrows and questions. With various perks added to base salaries, some coaches earn $250,000 to $500,000 a year.

Some of the young men who play for these coaches don't own overcoats, let alone suits and sport coats, and can't afford to do their laundry, let alone go out on dates.

Are coaches overpaid? Yes, but not by as much as you probably think.

Are players getting the short end of the stick? Unquestionably. But you won't get me to say they should be paid.

I wouldn't be at all offended, though, to see them receive $100 a month for laundry and incidental expenses. In fact, I'd be offended if I didn't see it happen soon.
