From Iowa to Ecuador and Boundary Waters to Buenos Aires, your
favorite vacation destinations take in an astonishing range of
landscapes.
Familiar and exotic, they add up to a Readers' Forum
round-the-world tour. We only regret that there's room to print just
a sampling here, starting with the three winners: Mary Costello, of
Albany, Ill. ($50 gift certificate); Florence G. Armour, of Michigan

FIRST PRIZE: In the fall of 1985, I visited friends in Sabula,
Iowa - actually an island (sabulum meaning "sandbar" in Latin) in the
Mississippi River. It is connected by bridge to Savanna, Ill., and
by causeway to the rest of Iowa.
