Article: Robinson quits CHA // Mayor names his pastor as agency's interim boss

CHA Board Chairman Renault Robinson, a growing liability to Mayor Washington's re-election bid, resigned yesterday, saying the political debate over his performance had overshadowed the housing agency's many problems.

Washington accepted the resignation of his longtime ally, first offered a week ago, and appointed his pastor, the Rev. B. Herbert Martin Sr., as the Chicago Housing Authority's $30,000-a-year interim chairman. Washington had appointed Martin to the board only last Sept. 8.

"It has become clear to me that among all the pressing problems of the CHA, Renault Robinson himself has become a central issue," Robinson said in a statement.
