Article: Audi and Saab are ranked among worst cars for year

WASHINGTON (UPI) The Audi 5000S and the Saab 9000T - both prestige vehicles - are among the year's worst cars, and the Chrysler New Yorker and Chevrolet Caprice are among the best, a study showed yesterday.

The 1987 Car Book, published by the not-for-profit Center for Auto Safety, rated the new autos for crash safety, fuel economy, preventive maintenance, repair and insurance costs in compiling its annual list.

The guide, written by Jack Gillis, reported the average new car costs nearly $13,000. It said Americans spend $350 billion to own and operate their autos, including various "hidden costs" such as fuel, maintenance and insurance.
