A Chicago lawyer who began his career as a city police officer
and another who became Illinois' top police officer were nominated to
U.S. District Court judgeships yesterday by President Reagan.
The appointments, which are subject to Senate confirmation and
congratulatory telephone calls from the president, went to State
Police Director James B. Zagel, 43, and James H. Alesia, 52, a
partner in the Loop law firm of Isham Lincoln & Beale.
On Thursday, Reagan nominated U.S. District Court Judge Michael
S. Kanne, of Hammond, for promotion to the U.S. Court of Appeals
here.
Zagel and Alesia were among six candidates recommended by House
