Harold Ballard, owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, has stepped up
his battle with sportswriters over access to the team's dressing
room.
Angered by an incursion by reporters into the off-limits
dressing room after Wednesday night's game, Ballard announced
yesterday that future interviews would be conducted in the team's
weight room.
NHL president John Ziegler said the Leafs' 83-year-old owner was
completely within his rights.
Reporters have been denied access to the team's dressing room
since January, 1986, when Ballard refused to admit a female reporter
into the dressing room. The media were banished to an anteroom
nearby.
