Article: Board panel backs pupil mix in South Loop school

A Chicago Board of Education committee yesterday endorsed an enrollment plan for a new South Loop school that calls for a mix of students from two public housing projects and the largely middle-class Dearborn Park community.

The plan was criticized by representatives of parent groups.

Dearborn Park parents questioned whether the plan would lead to overcrowding within a few years, while public housing parents dismissed the enrollment formula as "a sinister tactic of appeasement."
