Ald. Roman C. Pucinski (41st), a leading member of the Regular
Democratic Organization for more than 30 years, faces a stiff
challenge from a police officer backed by a bipartisan coalition that
includes Cook County State's Attorney Richard M. Daley, a Democrat,
and Republican Sheriff James E. O'Grady.
The silver-haired Pucinski, 67, a former seven-term congressman,
U.S. Senate nominee and perennial mayoral contender, has been one of
the more highly visible members of City Council for the last 13 years
and also is Democratic committeeman of his Far Northwest Side ward.
"Roman could be in trouble," said a neighboring ward
committeeman who is supporting him.
