The college draft might be three months off, but most NBA scouts
and executives probably could use three more years to determine who
to pick where. Consider this: player of the year David Robinson
might not even be able to play next season while Steve Alford,
Indiana's consensus All-America guard, could be a second-round pick.
As NBA superscout Marty Blake has become fond of saying, "Other
than David Robinson, Reggie Williams and Kenny Smith, you could take
your pick on the rest of them."
That will be the problem.
Unless Kansas' Danny Manning comes out as an undergraduate - and
probably not even then - Navy's Robinson will be the first player
chosen although he won't be able to ...
